PROJECT NEWS - SUCCESSFUL SUSPENSION OF A PROBLEMATIC WELL

OMEGA AND R&D SOLUTIONS HAVE COMBINED SERVICES CONDUCTING SUCCESSFUL SUSPENSION OF A PROBLEMATIC WELL FOR MAJOR OPERATOR IN QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA.

This was the first operation in Australia using Omega’s V-Zero™ Plug Range with all operations carried out using in country personnel. Plug selection for the operation was critical as a nipple-based plug and mono-bore plug had previously been tried but failed. Well conditions at 4,350 meters were not for the faint hearted as there was a window of only 0.38 meters in which to land the plug for isolation. Key details are listed below:

Richard Pyper Business Development Manager said, “we are delighted to have partnered with R&D Solutions to provide a successful outcome on our first Australian run.” Alistair Paterson R&D Solutions Eastern Australia Business manager based in Brisbane added, “we are pleased to have been able to provide a seamless solution that met the customers’ needs using in country staff. PROJECT AWARD - SUCCESSFULLY DEPLOYED A 450 GATOR PERFORATOR BOTTOM HOLE ASSEMBLY

R&D SOLUTIONS WERE RECENTLY AWARDED WORK WITH A MAJOR OPERATOR IN THE COOPER BASIN. WORKING WITH LEE ENERGY SYSTEMS. R&D SOLUTIONS SUCCESSFULLY DEPLOYED A 450 GATOR PERFORATOR BOTTOM HOLE ASSEMBLY (BHA) IN MULTIPLE RUNS TO MECHANICALLY PERFORATE PRODUCTION CASING IN ORDER TO ACCESS SPECIFIC FORMATIONS. THIS IN TURN, ALLOWED ANNULAR CIRCULATION OF CEMENT FOR ROCK-TO ROCK
BARRIERS.

Using the Gator tool instead of traditional Wireline perforating provided a more timely and efficient method of confirming circulation without the need to use pyrotechnics. With 2 cuts made the string was moved up 825 ft and 2 more cuts made. A packer run as part of the same BHA was then set below the top perforations and a circulation rate test attempted, no circulation was achieved. The packer was unset, additional cuts made and injectivity was confirmed.

The BHA was pulled and a cementing string deployed to pump the cement plug. The BHA assembly was then deployed in two more trips providing access for other cement plugs. A total of 13 cuts were made in 3 trips, saving an estimated 12 hours of rig time in comparison to tripping out if standard Wireline Perforating had been deployed.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions the operations were conducted by R&D personnel with real time support from LEE Energy services in Canada. This was an excellent example of teamwork across global time zones to achieve Australia based critical capabilities in remote locations.

USING THE GATOR TOOL PROVIDED A MORE TIMELY AND EFFICIENT METHOD OF CONFIRMING CIRCULATION WITHOUT THE NEED TO USE PYROTECHNICS.

LOCATION EXPANSION - BRISBANE OFFICE

FOR ALL OF US NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE SITUATED, 2020 WAS A CHALLENGING YEAR WITH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, DOWNTURN IN THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY AND MANY COMPANIES CLOSING OFFICES IN THE CBD IN FAVOUR OF WORKING FROM HOME AS A RESULT OF THESE COMBINED IMPACTS.

The situation in Queensland was equally tense but thankfully saw community transmission quickly controlled. Further, with our lease renewal pending from adversary, opportunities arose for movement to bigger and better things and a new location.

Consequently, R&D Solutions not only managed to reduce outlay but improve its city based position. In October, R&D Solutions staff moved to a new office location in the heart of the CBD at 324 Queen Street positioning our team closer to our client base. The new location, whilst similar in floorspace provides more functional space and is protected from the harsh morning sun allowing a cooler working environment – a definite requirement in QLD.

With room for expansion, or visits from partners, R&D Solutions in Brisbane looks forward to 2021 and providing our customer base the same quick response for the range of technologies and services we proudly offer. If you’re visiting Brisbane pop in and see us or call us and we’ll come and see you. Wishing you all the very best for a great 2021.

This recertification audit scrutinised R&D Solutions current systems and processes. The audit took place over 3 days from the 11th November 2020. The auditor, Bureau Veritas, are a well-regarded certification company and conducted the audit across R&D Solutions three facilities including, our West Perth Office, Welshpool and Canning Vale Service Centres.

R&D Solutions staff worked closely with Bureau Veritas over the 3-day period and was afforded an opportunity to showcase its robust internal systems and procedures. Moreover, the process examined every aspect of R&D Solutions business, including project management, emergency procedures, supplier management, staff training and safety procedures, amongst others.

In parallel with existing technology and service offerings, R&D Solutions has added further capabilities at its Canning Vale Service Centre, with the introduction of Torque Turn and Pressure Test services. To implement these significant features required extensive review of procedures, training for key stakeholders, and subject matter experts sign off, before official systems were implemented.

Improvements and enhancements continued over the course of 2020 being adjusted to incorporate evolving COVID-19 challenges and equipment requirements. As part of its extensive review, Bureau Veritas examined procedures around those capabilities in depth with positive feedback given.

As a consequence of the hard work and efforts of our team, recertification for ISO9001-2018 and AS/NZS 4801-2001 certificates were granted.

R&D Solutions and its staff are proud of this achievement, we look forward to advancing into 2021 building on the company’s commitment to Quality, Health, Safety, Environment and its Customers.

GOLF DAY - CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

We had an awesome day at Maylands Golf Course again this year participating in the SPE/SUT 2020 Golf Day. This event in its fourth year is a great opportunity to welcome the spring weather; after very unforgettable winter; and play 18 holes of Ambrose. This year our team of golfers extraordinaire comprised of Jim Smith (R&D’s Quality Consultant), Paul Swankie (PKIS Services) and Aaron Hogg & Paul O’Shea (Aztech).

As a Gold Sponsor of the event it is a relaxing opportunity for industry professionals to come together in teams and enjoy a day of fun and networking. Unfortunately, we did not win the $10,000 for the hole in one but finished off the day as the winner of the boobyprize which was a cask of beer, which Paul Swankie was happy to accept!
