Mega Packer Goes Live In Australia

In conjunction with our partners Lee Energy Systems, R&D Solutions successfully provided a permanent A&B annular barrier inside 9 5/8’s and 13 3/8’s casing with the “Mega Packer-MPX”. This technology had been tested and built in other sizes to expand the A casing string against the B casing, but this was the first time the tool was used offshore in open water. Using the MPX provided assurance the annulus could be fully cemented and that cement wouldn't drop past the expanded section – thus sealing the annulus creating a cement platform, before conducting Gator tool cuts and pumping cement. The operation saw one barrel returned to surface for each barrel pumped, confirming isolation.

After rigorous testing and witnessing, Mega Packers were given the green light by Cooper Energy who mobilised them as part of the very successful Basker Manta Gummy abandonments in the Bass Strait.
