R&D Solutions Hosts North Metropolitan TAFE Oil & Gas students
R&D Solutions has hosted students from North Metropolitan TAFE on 21 October at its Welshpool warehouse facilities, holding the first of what will be many regular visits for Western Australian oil and gas students.
The R&D team, led by Chris McLoughlin as host, along with staff from and Matrix Composites and Engineering, delivered a range of technology-focused talks and tours to the final-year students. The visit commenced withHSE inductions and a power point presentation on equipment and services that R&D Solutions and provide tothe oil and gas industry here in Australia and overseas. The sessions then showcased the latest intervention technology, providing examples of tools and equipment. Colin Mackie, Operations and Sales Support Manager for,provided detailed explanations of where equipment is used, the importance of V0 gas tight equipmentfor barriers and why getting technology right for customers inapplications is vitally important.Colin used his field experience to relay to his captive audience the importance of equipment selection for the application and how the students current academicwork would benefit them and the industry on completion of their studies. The talks included questions from the students on straddle technology for zonal isolation and the tool suite in general.
Chris, along with R&D Solutions’ Carly Bryden, then went into detail on R&D Solutions’ industry-leading inventory system and covered recent advancements being made in magnetics for metal swarf collection as well as mud cooling equipment and other technology.

The tour then moved to Matrix Composites and Engineering’sbase at Henderson. This visit included a tour of the Matrix facility at the world’s largest manufacturing plant of composite syntactic riser buoyancy products.
Under the guidance of Jason Kent, the students learnedtorque and drag theory as applied toMatrix low friction centralisers.The students asked questions and experienced first-hand the equipment used in their chosen field According toNorth MetropolitanTAFE representative NoufalShihab, the tour provided significant value to the students as they prepare for their final exams.
“Last Friday was a very interesting day for our O&G students. The efforts each of you had put in to arranging this is much appreciated. Most of the students had come to me personally to share how much they benefited from it. Those who couldn't make it due to personal reasons expressed their disappointment after hearing from their batch mates”.
