WWT Non-Rotating Protectors do the Job in Victoria
The Western Well Tools range of non-rotating protectors have been used on wells around the world and we’re now pleased to be able to pass on feedback from an Australian operator. So far the results have been very positive.
Overview of the Victorian operation
An operator drilling a challenging directional well in southwest Victoria noticed metal collection was increasing and installed WWT non-rotating protectors to combat casing wear. Torque dropped immediately by 30% and metal collection was decreased by 66%, as shown in the graphs below.
The tools used were a combination of HT-550 high temperature non-rotating protectors for the lower section and SS3-550 standard temperature non-rotating protectors for the upper sections. This particular combination ensured the right tools were properly positioned, paving the way for optimum performance.
The company in question commented on the performance benefits, in particular the immediate reduction in torque. The WWT service technician onsite, Stephen McLeay, noted the feedback.
“The best part of our job is seeing the immediate benefits to the client after installing NRPs on string, such as reduced string torque and wear, allowing greater RPM and weight on bit and better directional control,” he said.
